Saratoga Springs Berkshire Scenic Railway, Norman Rockwell Museum, & NY State Museum
Join Best of Times on a fun-filled two day amazing adventure that combines Art, History, and Entertainment. We will travel via luxury motorcoach from your home town to the Berkshire mountains on our way through to Albany, NY. Our final destination: Saratoga Springs, NY. Our adventure includes the following sights….
Berkshire Scenic Railroad – Named by the Boston Globe as one of the “Top 10 Ways to Ride the Rails in New England,” the Berkshire Scenic Railway is an experience unlike any other. Enjoy our train ride from Lenox, MA to the historic town of Stockbridge, MA on the restored 1920’s passenger cars hauled by vintage diesel-electric locomotives where we’ll learn about the region’s rich industrial origins and discover the natural scenic beauty found along the HousatonicRiver. After our train excursion we’ll enjoy Free Time for Lunch on our own at the LeePremiumOutletsCenter.
Norman Rockwell Museum – After our lunch we make a visit to this magnificent museum with ample time to explore at our leisure. The NormanRockwellMuseum houses the world’s largest and most significant collection of original Rockwell art. Highlights include enduring favorites from Rockwell’s Saturday Evening Post covers, the powerful Four Freedoms, and the nostalgic Stockbridge Main Street at Christmas. The Norman Rockwell Archive contains more than 100,000 photographs, letters, and other rare mementos. A visit to the Museum is an uplifting experience. The Museum’s changing Norman Rockwell exhibitions present an illustrated chronicle of American life and showcase our nation’s ideals of kindness, tolerance, democracy, and freedom, as interpreted through the artist’s spirit, wisdom, and gentle humor. This afternoon we check into our hotel the Fairfield Inn by Marriott. After we have refreshed we will head out for our included dinner off the menu at the Cracker Barrell.
NY State Museum - After our morning deluxe continental breakfast at our hotel we depart for the NY State Museum in downtown Albany, NY. While here enjoy time on our own to explore the The World Trade Center: Rescue Recovery Response Exhibit. The Exhibit tells the history of the WorldTradeCenter, the September 11 attacks, the rescue efforts, the evidence recovery operation at the Fresh Kills landfill, and the public response to the September 11th events. A truly moving exhibit not to be missed. While here be sure to enjoy the full-sized carousel that was made between 1912 and 1916 by the Herschell-Spillman Company of North Tonawanda, New York, one of the leading manufacturers of carousels in America. Rides are free and bring out the kid in all of us.
Saratoga Race Course - The historic city of Saratoga SpringsNY started out as a quiet little settlement with beautiful scenery and magnificent natural springs. As more and more people learned of its healing mineral springs, the area quickly grew into a luxury resort city with the rich and famous from all over the world making a point to visit the famed “SpaCity” and experience the springs for themselves. The historic Saratoga Race Course opened in 1864 and is home to the oldest major thoroughbred horse race in the US. We arrive early to the track with Reserved Grandstand seating and special lunch package, with plenty of time to see the horses in action. While here don’t forget to take a chance on a horse. You never know, you might be a big winner! We will enjoy a rest-stop on the way home with dinner on our own.
